PCSD students, staff, and community members came together on February 26 at the C.L. Overturf, Jr. District Center to honor Black History Month with a districtwide celebration centered on the theme: “We Rise by Lifting Others: Celebrating Culture, Building Community”
The event was livestreamed and promoted across the district, allowing classrooms and staff members to participate in the experience in real time. The program highlighted the importance of unity, service, leadership, and the shared responsibility of uplifting one another.

The celebration opened with a welcome from PCSD Community Liaison and Palatka City Commissioner Justin Campbell, followed by remarks from Superintendent Dr. Rick Surrency.
Attendees and virtual viewers experienced a meaningful and engaging program that included:
An introduction to the Divine Nine organizations
A powerful message from Pastor Jarvis F. Wright, Sr.
A special fashion show presented by Moseley Elementary School staff
An interactive Q&A session focused on leadership, service, and community impact
The event concluded with a time of fellowship and lunch, reinforcing the spirit of connection and community that defined the day.
The Black History Month Celebration reflects PCSD’s commitment to honoring history, recognizing contributions, and creating learning experiences that inspire students to lead, serve, and make a positive difference in their communities.
